The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday has joined the nationwide protest declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC over the current hardship rocking the country.
DAILY GIST reports that Makinde, a governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, joined the protest in Ibadan, the state capital.
In a video trending on social media, the governor is seen among protesters who were chanting his name as he addressed them.
The governor said hardship and poverty have reached alarming levels, with many unable to feed themselves or find work.
He urged all parties to work together to find solutions, expressing hope that the situation can be turned around.
“There is hunger and hardship in the land,” the governor. “We must do something about it.”
Makinde noted that the worsening economic situation is not unique to Oyo State, but rather a nationwide issue.
He called on the federal government to take action to alleviate the suffering of the people, emphasising the need for policies that promote growth and job creation.

They are also protesting the government’s alleged failure to implement agreements reached between both parties on October 2, 2023, following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
The decision followed the conclusion of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to implement measures against the widespread hardship.
The protest is taking place across the 36 states in the country.
