The apology statement issued by Rep. Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh has generated controversies on social media.
The development comes following a findings which revealed that the statement was generated by an AI tool.
A quick check, using Quillbot AI Detector, showed that 100 per cent of the text in the letter is likely AI-generated.
The statement, which was released in response to a recent incident involving the Representative and a Bolt driver, appeared to be a sincere apology at first glance.
However, upon further examination, it was discovered that the language and tone of the statement were consistent with AI-generated content.
Nigerians are now questioning the authenticity of the apology.
An X (formerly Twitter) user Mr Dopamine also shared a picture of the results from another AI checker tool – GPTZero.
“100% AI-generated, he didn’t even write some parts himself,” he tweeted.
Another user, Megamighty said, “Wow, he’s so proud that he can’t even compose an apology by himself. I pray he is removed so that others can learn.”
Rep. Ikwechegh, on Monday, was involved in a physical altercation with a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
The incident occurred when the driver refused to deliver a package, a snail dish, to the Rep member inside his house.
The Rep member insisted that the driver come into the house to deliver the package, which led to a physical assault on the driver by Hon. Alex, as seen in viral video footage.
