The Commissioner of Police for Akwa-Ibom state, Waheed Ayilara has reportedly died
The CP, according to reports passed on after undergoing surgery in a Lagos hospital.
It was gathered that Ayilara had prostate cancer surgery at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja on Wednesday.
However, he died at the early hours of Thursday in the hospital.
A close family source disclosed that he will be buried according to Islamic rites on Thursday (Today).
The source said “We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead.”
In February 2024, Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, deployed Ayilara to head the Akwa Ibom command of the force.
Ayilara served as acting commissioner of police in Lagos in November 2023, succeeding Idowu Owohunwa.
He earned a law degree (LL.B) from the University of Ibadan and masters of law (LLM) from the University of Lagos.
He was appointed into the police force as a cadet assistant superintendent of police on May 18, 1992 and has served in various capacities.
