Operatives of the Nigerian police in Plateau has announced the arrest of some suspects in connection with the killings in Barking Ladi and Bokkos local government area of the State on December 24, 2023.
The attack left over 200 persons dead and thousands displaced.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alfred Alabo, made the disclosure in Jos, the state capital.
Although the Police spokesperson did not give details, he said he would issue a formal statement concerning the arrest later today.
The assailants targeted 17 communities in “senseless and unprovoked” attacks on Saturday and Sunday, burning down most houses in the area, Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang had said in a broadcast on Channels Television.
Some of the locals said that it took more than 12 hours before security agencies responded to their calls for help.
No group took responsibility for the attacks, although blame fell on herders from the Fulani tribe, who have been accused of carrying out such mass killings across the northwest and central regions.
The outbreak of violence and the killing of dozens of communities members in Plateau State has continued to send shock waves across the entire state.
