DAILY GIST report that a gas tanker on Sunday crushed many people to death and injured others at a market in Ibadan after it suffered a brake failure.
It was gathered that the driver lost control of the vehicle around Idi Arere Area and struggled with it until it got to Bode Market.
The incident occurred at Bode Market, Molete, when the truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), reportedly lost control and rammed into the market, famous for selling of herbs.
Eyewitness account revealed that the tanker was moving from Idi-Arere towards Molete, when it lost control, veered off into the market and wreaked the havoc.
The tanker also vandalised some cars on the road before it finally came to a halt in the market in an upside-down position.
Residents living in the area said they were still afraid because of a possible explosion.
Reacting to the incident, The Police Command in ibadan on Sunday confirmed that five persons dead and others injured when a gas tanker rammed into Bode market.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Public relation officer of Oyo police command, Adewale Osifeso and made available to DAILY GIST on Sunday
The Police said the corpses have been deposited at a morgue, adding efforts were on to evacuate accident vehicles and reveal the identities of the deceased.
Osifeso noted that police with the Fire Service have successfully managed the situation to prevent fire outbreaks
