The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has passed on.
He reportedly died on Thursday, 25th July, 2024, at a hospital in Abuja of yet-to-be-named ailment.
The death was announced by his son Jide Iwuanyanwu, in a statement made available to Journalists in Owerri, Imo state.
According to the son, “The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo state announced the demise of our Patrich Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo.
“Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday July 25, 2024 after a brief illness. He was aged aged 82. Chief Iwuanyanwu before his death was president General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.”
“Chief Iwuanyanwu is survived by his wife lady Princess Iwuanyanwu many children and grandchildren including Dr Mrs Nwadiuto Iheakanwa managing Director Champion Newspapers details of the burial will be announced later by the family after due consultation,’he said.
Chief Iwuanyanwu, an engineer, was born in September 1942.
Chief Iwuanyanwu was elected the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on 20th April, 2023.
His emergence followed the death of erstwhile Ohanaeze PG, Prof George Obiozor.
Chief Iwuanyanwu was a prominent business man and politician. He contested to become Nigeria’s president, but failed to win.
