The federal government through National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved Nigeria’s first online higher institution of learning – Miva Open University to operate as an open university in Nigeria.

The federal executive council acting on the recommendation of NUC granted Miva, an open distance eLearning license that permits the institution to bring everything it has learned in kindergarten through grade 12 (K12) to the tertiary segment.

“It is with a great sense of responsibility and excitement that I would like to share that Mivauniversity part of the uLesson Group has been granted an online university license,” Sim Shagaya, founder of uLesson App said, expressing delight over the development.

“We have dreamed of this day for four years since the very founding of uLesson.

“Our entry into the tertiary segment comes as at a time when the very definition of a university is changing and the demand for effective affordable tertiary education is as acute as ever,” he said.

He added that Miva Open University will push the boundaries of accessibility, affordability, efficacy, convenience and innovation.
