The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has reduced minimum wage demand for civil servants in the country.

A significant sign suggests that organized labor will advocate for N500,000 as the minimum wage, as the zonal public hearing on the new wage framework commences today in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, and Abuja.

During an interview on Arise TV on February 11, the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero had stated that organized labor could propose a new minimum wage of up to N1m for Nigerian workers if the current inflation persists.

The organized labor is reportedly advocating for a sum of N500,000 following the submission of proposals by state chapters to the headquarters of the congress.

The upcoming public hearing on the proposed new minimum wage, scheduled to take place across all six geographical zones, will gather feedback from organized labor, state governors, government ministers, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

The aim is to establish a new minimum wage that aligns with the current economic conditions and meets the expectations of workers.

The upcoming meeting in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, in the North-East will be presided over by Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

The South-West hearing in Lagos will be overseen by Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy.

DAILY GIST reported earlier that the Lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Wednesday had proposed at least N100,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

This house also set up an ad-hoc committee to look into modalities for the payment of a decent living wage to workers.

This followed the adoption of a motion jointly sponsored by 40 members of the House.
