Following his removal from the ministerial nominees by President Bola Tinubu, Maryam Shettima popularly known as Maryam Shetty has broken her silence.
Maryam said the nominee who replaced her was her teenage friend.
The former minister nominee said she remains grateful for Tinubu’s unrelenting support and thankful for any decision from him.
Her nomination elicited mixed reactions on social media. While some questioned her experience, others called her a “TikTok influencer”.
President Tinubu in a letter addressed to Senate on Friday had revoked the ministerial nomination of Maryam Shetty from Kano and replaced her with Dr Mairiga Mahmud, DAILY GIST had reported.
Tinubu, however, did not give any reason for Shetty’s replacement as a ministerial nominee
Maryam had arrived at the National Assembly for what she thought was going to be her screening.
She was among those lined up for screening while her documents had been sent ahead.
However, she later left the parliament apparently disappointed.
Speaking on the development in a tweet after the incident, Maryam Shetty said the current nominee from Kano State was her classmate.
She wrote: “Dr Mariya Mairiga was my close friend and classmate since teenage age. We attended Kano Foundation School, and later to Bayero University, Kano. We shared faculty of Medical Sciences and took some courses together. I read Physiotherapy while Mahmoud read Medicine and Surgery.
Earlier, she had tweeted: “I was just informed now at today’s plenary session that President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has withdrawn my ministerial nomination and replaced me with Dr Mariga Mahmoud.
“I’m grateful and thankful for any decision from you My President!”
Shetty supported Osinbajo in his bid for APC’s presidential ticket
Social media trail shown that Shetty threw her support behind Osinbajo in his bid for the APC presidential ticket. She was literally embedded in his campaign for the presidency.
Shetty shared, retweeted and posted videos and images from the Osinbajo presidential campaign organisation.
