Lanre Fasasi, the popular Nigerian singer, better known as Sound Sultan, is dead.
He died at the age of 44.
The sad news was disclosed in a statement signed by Dr. Kayode Fasasi on behalf of the Fasasi family.
The statement read, “It is wth heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our multitalented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan.
“He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.
“He is survived by his wife, three children and his siblings.
“We, his family will appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with this tragic loss.”
Sound Sultan was a popular figure in the Nigerian entertainment scene and was one of the most visible veterans of Nigerian hip hop music who are still relevant in the present day
His song, ‘Jagbajantis’, among many others were very popular and ruled the airwaves for many years. News of his battle with throat cancer broke a few months ago but was not thought to be life-threatening, until now.
His death has been received with shock by his family, friends and fans worldwide with torrents of messages posted online in shock.
Sound Sultan is survived by a wife and three children.
