The Osun State Government has on Tuesday reversed the restriction order imposed by Ooni of ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi for residents in the town.

DAILY GIST reported that Students and residents of Ile-Ife were thrown into panic following reports of robbery attacks by unknown armed persons in some axis of the town

Following the development,Ooni had imposed a fresh lockdown for residents in Ile-Ife.

Part of the statement reads: “The restrictions order was arrived at after the kingmakers with other chiefs held a meeting today and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who was not around endorsed the order.

“The Imperial Majesty, Oba Ogunwusi has ordered lockdown from 11 pm to 5am in Ife township from today. No vigil, night party, night prayers in all churches and mosques, etc.

“This is because the activities of robbers in Ile-Ife are on high which is causing sleepless nights among the residents.

“The police with the local securities are now in the community to ensure security. Anyone caught in within these hours will be treated as such. The restriction is till further notice.”

But reacting to the development, Osun state government noted that there is no curfew of any nature in any part of the state.

This was disclosed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji in a statement on Tuesday.

He assured that peace had been restored to the few troubled communities within the state.

According to him, Governor Oyetola, who is the Chief Security Officer of the state, has not declared any curfew.

Oyebamiji asserted that citizens were free to go about their legitimate activities without fear of harassment. He, however, cautioned residents to avoid reckless movements especially at odd hours of the day.

The statement partly reads “What obtains however is that some communities that recently experienced a disruption of peace were placed under strict security surveillance after order had been restored to those communities. This does not translate to curfew.”

“The state government vowed to punish those who were found culpable of disrupting the peace of Osun.”

“Anyone who has found delight in being a trouble maker has the option of relocating elsewhere if they cannot do without fomenting trouble.”

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Olawale Olokode had said two suspects have been arrested in Ile-Ife over the robbery in some areas of the town.

He opined that the situation in Ile-Ife over the robbery cases has not warranted the partial lockdown imposed on the community by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

He noted that the partial curfew imposed by the monarch is not necessary.
