The National Youth Service Corps has confirmed the death of two serving corps members in Calabar, Cross River state.
DAILY GIST gathered that the incident occurred on their way to their primary place of assignment in Calabar.
According to the information made available, the serving corps members were inside a bus when thier bus rammed into a river and drowned instantly.
NYSC confirmed the death in a statement signed and issued by Eddy Megwa, Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC on Thursday.
The statement reads: “The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed; and the management of the Scheme regret to announce the death of two Corps Members serving in Cross River State: Udemagwuna Adaeze Onyinyechukwu with State Code Number CR/23A/1450, serving at 304 Mobility Group, Airforce Base, Calabar; and Okwuowulu Giveth Nzubechukwu, CR/23A/1390 serving at Cross River State House of Assembly, Calabar.
“The Corps Members met their deaths in a ghastly motor accident that occurred along Nara/Ugbawka Road, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, on their way to Calabar.”
The National Youth Service Corps is saddened over the losses, which have left the Scheme highly devastated.
“Management conveys deepest condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, as well as the
Governments and people of Enugu and Cross River States over the sad incident.”
Meanwhile, the management of the scheme is in
constant contact with the families of the deceased corps members.”
