The Nigerian government has announced plans to shut down the Muritala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) temporarily October 1, 2023.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced this on Thursday during a tour at the airport, directing all international airlines to vacate the airport premises to give room for total maintenance work at the airport.

He also ordered the immediate demolition of Dominion and EAN hangers at the airport.

According to him, the demolition would pave the way for airport expansion.

The minister who was accompanied by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed expressed his dismay about the unkept airport environment and ordered that facilities be clean

While speaking, he directed the airlines and companies operating in the airport to move to the new terminal, MMIA Terminal Two, constructed by the Chinese company.
