The Ayo Adebanjo-led faction of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, has appointed lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi its National Organising Secretary.
This was announced during a general meeting at Adebanjo’s Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State residence on Tuesday.
A communiqué was released after the meeting to confirm the appointment.
It was jointly signed by Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Justice Faloye.
The statement reads: “The General Meeting considered and approved the appointment of Barrister Dele Farotimi as the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere.”
DAILY GIST reports that Farotimi’s appointment comes after day after legal luminary Aare Afe Babalola agreed to withdraw a defamation suit against him.
The lawsuit stemmed from alleged defamatory statements in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
Farotimi was arraigned before an Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti and granted bail for ₦30 million.
He was subsequently released from the correctional facility in Ekiti State where he was remanded after meeting the bail conditions
Despite these legal challenges, his appointment signals confidence in his leadership abilities within the group.
