A High court in Adamawa State has sentenced Badaru, 27 and Auwal Lawan, 26 to death by lethal injection or by hanging.
The duo reportedly murdered a commercial tricycle operator and stole his vehicle on April 4, 2022, in Uba, in the Hong Local Government Area of the state.
Justice Kaynson Lawanson of the State’s High Court, convicted and sentenced them to death for “criminal conspiracy, robbery and culpable homicide”.
“The sentence of the court upon you is to be hanged by the neck or by lethal injection until you are dead. May the Lord have mercy upon you,” Justice Lawanson pronounced, while delivering the verdict.
Earlier, the prosecution had informed the court that the convicts conspired and robbed a tricycle operator, Algoni Muhammed, after drugging him with pentazocine to death.
“The convicts gruesomely murdered their victim, broke his neck and subsequently dumped his corpse in a river in Uba Hildi, Hong LGA, and stole his tricycle in order to sell it to raise the sum of N80,000 to N100,000 for Badaru to settle debts”, the prosecutor added.
It was learnt that the condemned prisoners, conspired and tricked the deceased to convey them to a solitary place where they forcibly injected him with pentazocine, leading to his death; before stealing the tricycle.
Badaru was arrested first, while attempting to sell the tricycle in Mubi.
