President Muhammadu Buhari is set to visit Lagos tomorrow to launch the Deep Blue Project of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

President Buhari’s visit was confirmed on Wednesday by the state police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement.

The Deep Blue Project is meant to strengthen national security on land, sea and air, as initiated by the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Federal Ministry of Defence.

The president’s visit is coming two days to the massive June 12 protest scheduled to take place at Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos.

Nigeria’s Democracy Day is a public holiday commemorated on June 12 to mark the restoration of democracy to the country.

Some Nigerian youths have announced their plans to boycott the public holiday by holding protests.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had also announced that they will evoke nationwide protests on June 12, in a bid to persuade the Nigerian government to take stronger action against the daily kidnapping and killing of students and others throughout the country.

Members of NANS insist there is nothing worth celebrating as the country continues to be terrorised by the criminal gangs.

In Nigeria kidnappings are a booming business for organised criminal gangs.

DAILY GIST reports that Usman Alkali Baba, Nigeria’s Inspector of General of Police, was booed in Lagos during his visit to the state to address and lecture Police officers on Wednesday.

He was reportedly booed by Lagos residents around Oshodi-Anthony Expressway while en route to an event.

In preparation for the arrival of the police IG, the state police blocked the Oshodi-Lagos Airport Road and Maryland-Ojota axis of the highway.

Many Lagos residents were however unhappy with it as they were stuck in traffic for hours.

As the police IG’s convoy passed the blocked road, the crowd booed and called him names in Yoruba. Some shouted “thief”, others screamed “you will never do well”.

The IGP’s visit comes three days to the June 12 nationwide protests that have been planned to take place at Freedom Park, Ojota.

The protests, being championed by civil society organisations and human rights activists, are to kick against bad governance under the President Muhammadu Buhari regime and his anti-democratic ways.

IGP LECTURES POLICE OFFICERS IN LAGOS.

In a statement made available to Journalists on Wednesday by the Public Relation Officer of Lagos Police command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, The IGP charged the officers to be alive to their duties and protect their lives and property, noting that “never again should Police Stations be sacked by hoodlums wielding guns, sticks and matchetes”.

The Inspector-General of Police lectured the cross section of Police personnel on proper dressing, efficiency, discipline, commitment to duties and uphoding the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP said “Your welfare is being taken care of like never before, do not commit suicide by being unprofessional”.

Part Of the statement reads; The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, NPM, fdc, despite the heavy rain in Lagos, engaged the personnel in a tete-a-tete to brainstorm on their general well-being and betterment of the Nigeria Police Force.

It is clear that the visit of the Inspector-General of Police is a blessing in disguise to the command and Lagos State in general as he promised to release some crime fighting equipment to the Lagos State Police Command in order to boost its arsenal and promote public safety in Lagos State. He further promised to embark of empowerment programmes for the wives of officers and men in the Nigeria Police Force, such that their wives will not be solely dependent on them.

IGP Usman Alkali Baba, NPM, fdc, who is on 3 day working visit to Lagos, will continue his assignments in Lagos State tomorrow Thursday 10th June, 2021and departs the state to Abuja on Friday 11th, June, 2021.

In another development, the Command wishes to refute the fake news being peddled in the social media today Wednesday 9th June, 2021, that the IGP Usman Alkali Baba was booed in Lagos on arrival. The publication is false, baseless and mischievous as the Inspector-General of Police was never booed, rather he was warmly received and celebrated by Lagosians.

The Command therefore urges the general public to disregard the fake new and continually support the Nigeria Police Force as ever, as the new leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, under the command of the 21st indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, NPM, fdc, is committed to improving the general security of lives and property in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
