President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday has denied endorsing the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress to Southern Nigeria.
Buhari who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu Garba refuted the reports that the president demanded for a southern Presidential candidate for the APC.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday had said he would support a Southern candidate to fly the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s presidential election.
But the presidency described the report as false, misleading and misrepresentation of what truly transpired.
Speaking with the BBC on Sunday, Shehu said, “This issue has not arisen.
“All he has to do is negotiate and get one person out of it, and he has shown that as a leader he is ready to provide leadership to make that happen,” he stated.
Buhari had invited all presidential aspirants on the party’s platform to a dinner meeting at the State House on Saturday night after returning from overseas trip to Spain.
Th northern governors also appealed to all northern aspirants to withdraw from the presidential race in the national interest and allow only the aspirants from the south to proceed to the primaries.
The northern governors, in a statement, said APC governors and political leaders from the northern states of Nigeria met to review the political situation and to further support party in providing progressive leadership amidst national challenges.
