Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Nigerian military estate on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, kidnapping two persons.

It was gathered that the bandits invaded Phase 2, Army Estate, Kurudu in the wee hours of Friday.

According to eyewitnesses, there was exchange of gunfire between the bandits and the estate security officials.

Since the beginning of 2024, Abuja has witnessed a significant rise in the number of kidnapping incidents.

Subsequently, the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, established a Special Intervention Squad in the Federal Capital Territory to curb activities of kidnappers and bandits.

Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of a suspected notorious kidnapper, Chinaza Philip, who had been terrorising the FCT and its neighbouring state.

The suspect, who was arrested on Tnursday, January 18, 2024, by the Kaduna State Police Command, was handed over to the FCT on Friday for further investigation.
