Mohammed Usman, the general officer commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 81 division, Lagos, has urged soldiers to remain loyal to President Bola Tinubu.

Usman spoke during his maiden visit to the headquarters of the 35 artillery brigade in Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The army chief also urged troopers to always uphold the rule of law as a show of professionalism in the discharge of their constitutional duty.

The GOC’s admonition is coming after Wednesday’s military takeover in Gabon, which is the eighth in Africa since 2020.

During the visit, Usman was received by Mohammed Aminu, the commander of the 35 artillery brigade, who briefed him on the administrative and operational activities of the brigade.

The GOC commissioned a newly constructed quarter guard and also inspected ongoing projects in the barracks.

Usman also visited Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, and Micheal Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake of Egba land, in Abeokuta.

The GOC also extended the familiarization visit to 192 battalion (BN) Owode.

B. Bala, a rear major and the commanding officer, briefed the GOC on the activities and operational engagement of the battalion.

The GOC also addressed the women in the barracks, toured the barrack facilities, presented plaques and signed visitors’ books, among others.
