The private residence of the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud has been engulfed by fire on Sunday.
The property is situated at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeji Close in the Asokoro district.
Emergency response was reportedly slow, leading to the loss of all the minister’s belongings within the residence.
Mr Austin Elemue, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister confirmed the incident.
Elemue said the incident was still being investigated by relevant authorities
But according to the Acting Director, FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, the fire was caused by suspected electrical fault inside the children’s room.
She said no life was lost while the fire was brought under control at around 2:51 pm.
She added that the fire wrought substantial damage on the seven-bedroom duplex.
Also there were noticeable cracks on the walls while the roofs were flattened by the heat from the inferno.
The fire also destroyed all the household items on the upper floor, ranging from air conditioners, beds, clothes, documents, credentials and jewelleries among others.
A combined team of FEMA, Federal Fire Service and FCT Fire Service were on ground during the incident.
