Some yet-to-be-identified Gunmen on Monday have unleashed terror on residents of Igoba community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
After killing a guard, the gunmen also reportedly set the filling station in the area on fire.
The residents were gripped by apprehension on Monday when gunmen stormed the town and unleashed terror.
The unknown assailant set the station ablaze shot and killed the security guard who was manning the Titolu Venture filling station in the community.
The manager of the station, Ajisafe Oluwatobiloba, said while attempting to determine what started the fire, they came upon the body of the security guard.
He said, “In the morning, I was called by one of the residents, and on getting here, we saw the station burning, we called the fire service and they came to stop the fire not knowing the perpetrators had killed our security guard.
“While trying to figure out what could have caused the fire, we saw where the guard was tied and killed. We also saw the keg used by the arsonist filled with petrol which must have been used to wet the station before setting it on fire.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, PPRO, SP Funmi Odunlami who confirmed the incident said investigations had begun to unravel the circumstances behind the incident.
