DAILY GIST has compiled a list showing Nigerian universities with ASUU lecturers that won’t shutdown inspite of the strike.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, on Monday commenced a nationwide strike following what it called failure of the federal government to meet it demands and fulfill it promises, DAILY GIST reports.
ASUU after it’s marathon meeting which ended on Monday said it has embarked on one-month warning strike.
The National President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed the Strike on Monday while addressing Journalists.
However there are also some federal and state universities who have academic staff other than ASUU lecturers, Such universities might not be shut inspite of the strike.
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Congress of Universities Academic (CONUA) are the two academic unions that operate as parallel bodies with almost similar modus operandi, even though the latter is a breakaway faction of the former.
CONUA is an association of lecturers from five universities that was formed from the breakaway faction of ASUU.
How CONUA came into existence?
In February 2018, some aggrieved lecturers of ASUU-OAU complained of marginalisation and of being unfairly treatment, a development that resulted in a splinter group that birthed CONUA the following month.
At its inauguration, the National Coordinator of CONUA, Dr. Niyi Sunmonu, said the sole purpose of CONUA was to redirect unionism, restore peace and stability in universities in Nigeria and come up with new approaches of engagement in addressing members’ welfare.
CONUA which started in OAU over three years ago has tentacles in five universities so far, Checks by DAILY GIST on Monday has confirmed.
While there might still be some universities who will not shutdown despite the ASUU’s strike, Below is a list of universities with Lecturers other than ASUU
Obafemi awolowo university,(OAU), Ile-Ife
Federal university, Oye-ekiti(FUOYE)
Kwara state University(KWASU)
Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Exopoma, Edo State.
Federal university, Lokoja, Kogi state.
