The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has unveiled top scorers in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME
The board announced this duing the 2024 policy meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
The top scorers are Olowu Joseph from Ondo State, Alayande David from Oyo State, and Orukpe Joel from Edo State with aggregate score of 367
In the previous year, Umeh Nkechinyere held the highest score with a 360 aggregate.
JAMB had earlier decided not to announce the 2024 highest scorer to avoid a repeat of the controversy similar to the “Mmesoma matter.”
In 2023, Ejikeme Mmesoma, a 19-year-old student, falsely claimed to have scored 362, whereas her actual score was 249 according to the JAMB portal.
JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, emphasized that the Board views the UTME as a ranking examination and considers it only one part of the criteria for admission to tertiary institutions.
As a result, JAMB is cautious about publicizing the names of top performers to prevent potential misunderstandings and misrepresentations.

9. Adeleke Abdulbasit-363-Kwara
10. Echem Victor-363-Rivers
