The federal government through Nigerian Correctional Service has suspended two Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kiri-kiri, Lagos over bribery allegations involving Nigerian crossdresser, Bobrisky.
A statement issued on Thursday by the organisation’s spokesperson, Ja’afaru Ahmed, said the suspension of the affected officer was sanctioned by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board.
In a video released earlier this week, activist Vincent Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan) had accused Bobrisky of offering N15 million to operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against him, allegedly allowing him to evade a jail term at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
The activist also alleged that Bobrisky did not serve his sentence at the correctional facility but was allowed to stay in a rented apartment after bribing officials at the prison.
The statement reads: “Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service:
i.Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; and
ii.Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State;
Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.
In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.
The suspension of these Officers is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.”
