President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

The inauguration took place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The committee chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, a tax and policy expert comprises of experts from both the private and public sectors.

The committee is expected to deliver tax reforms achievable in 30 days.

According to Oyedele, the membership of the committee was carefully constituted to ensure diversity of in-depth knowledge, robust expertise, and broad representation by key stakeholder groups across the geopolitical zones.

Also included in the committee is Orire Agbaje, a 400-level Economics student of the University of Ibadan (UI).

President Tinubu said he was confident that the committee would deliver on its mandate and help to improve the tax system in Nigeria.

At the inauguration, the President said the Committee would be guided by national interest above all else.

Tinubu stated that the country cannot continue to tax poverty or production but focus on returns, income and consumption.

He also directed all government agencies, ministries and departments to cooperate fully with the Committee towards achieving their mandate.
