The Nigerian government has clarified directive on change of salary accounts for civil servants on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System platform, IPPIS.

Earlier, civil servants enrolled in the IPPIS were instructed to transfer their salary accounts from Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) to another commercial bank due to ongoing network issues causing payment delays.

This directive, issued by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, comes after repeated complaints about GTBank’s service disruptions impacting salary disbursements.

However, in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, OAGF, Bawa Mokwa, the office emphasized that changing a salary account is a personal decision by the workers, and the IPPIS Office would never mandate or direct an account change.

Bawa noted that IPPIS prioritizes workers’ well-being and will not issue any directive that could mislead, misguide, or cause unnecessary panic among workers.

He explained, “Whenever there is an application for a change of salary account, such is always a personal decision of the worker concerned.

“The IPPIS Office has not issued any general directive to this effect as there was no reason to do so.”

The OAGF urged financial institutions to implement strategies to boost customer confidence and ensure efficient fulfillment of their obligations to employees with salary accounts in those institutions and to Nigerians in general.

The Office further emphasized that agencies statutorily mandated to assess the health and viability of financial institutions must remain dedicated to their responsibilities.

Bawa also advised workers with legitimate reasons to change their salary accounts on the IPPIS platform to follow the official procedures
