The brutalities of the so called special Anti-robbery squad (SARS) has brought many hullabaloos from southern parts of Nigeria, especially Lagos, and the capital city of Abuja.
The aforesaid police unit that was introduced to douse the rampant kidnapping on highways robbery is, however, metamorphosed to diminish the image of their services and responsibilities in the name of protecting Nigerians. It is true that a government that cannot protect its citizens is no longer a reliable government.
Recently, Nigerians organized a peaceful protest against SARS and the police brutality in general. The protest is well organized, and their demands are intelligible and acceptable to those who understood what patriotism stand for.
With pride I can say Nigerians are now the blueprints of democracy and good governance who live honestly within their means, and not dishonestly on the means of others. Their altruisms are well articulated. But it is time for them to stop being loyal to their oppressors who blocked their future; who do harm than good. Who get lion shares from the resources of the country, and who do non resourceful projects from the lion shares they get. It also obvious that some interlopers, meddling to step in based on their political interests have derived this protest into chaos that culminated to loss of lives and properties.
Many places were incinerated by the protesters to assuage their feelings which is equivalent to negative behaviors of the people they demanded to be disbanded from service.
To my fellow Nigerians, I can say that darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. At the same time hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. You cannot act in a negative way and expect positive results, never. The Lekki Toll gate massacre has been a didactic event for you to realize that celebrities will be with to endear themselves, but won’t be with you during trying times. At the time you will be mourning for your bereaved ones, they will be sending their opprobrium to the government but when election comes, they will still be in the forefront of benefitting from them, while you will remain slaves framing pictures on the wall.
It is height of stupidity to vandalize what owned by the government in the way of retaliation of what government has been doing to you. If that is your way of retaliation, does that replace the pain of the ones you lost? If that is true, the government may end of killing you and rebuilding the things you have dilapidated with your own taxes.
In a statement made by the speaker house of rep, Femi Gbajabiamila, he bestowed with you and stand firmly for your rights to the blood of your brothers in the field of the struggles shall never be in vain under his watch. He promised that the budget won’t be signed without your demands. This has never happened in Nigeria, but your courage and determination made it despite the fact that how you underestimated yourselves, and how the nascent protest has been trivialized.
I think it is time for you to delve into the positions they have occupied with intelligence, not with disrespect. They fool you once, but don’t let them fool you twice.
