Popular Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo has announced that she was grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning regarding money spraying at her daughter’s wedding ceremony.
In a statement shared via her Instagram account, the actress disclosed that she honoured the EFCC’s invitation on May 5, 2025, after returning from the UK.
According to her, the commission questioned her about her personal background, career, work experience, and business interests.
Ojo revealed that EFCC officials showed her video clips from her daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding, where guests, including friends and celebrities, were seen spraying both naira and foreign currencies. She was then asked whether she was aware that spraying money was illegal in Nigeria.
“I explained that I thought only the abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offence,” she said, adding that the commission enlightened her on the illegality of spraying any currency, including U.S. dollars.
The actress further stated that she was allowed to leave after the session, while her lawyer, O.I. Salami, stood in for her in case she is required to return for further questioning.
In her public message, Ojo urged Nigerians to desist from spraying money at events, warning that such acts, although culturally ingrained, could lead to legal consequences.
“Perhaps it’s time to reconsider this long-standing tradition. Let’s prioritise caution and avoid any potential problems,” she advised.
