Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have ambushed motorists along Ile-Ife-Akure road in Osun State.
The assailants, DAILY GIST gathered shot and raped passengers during the incident om Wednesday.
An eyewitness said, “Those robbers are deadly. They robbed the passengers, raped a woman, shot the driver but he did not die before our intervention.”
A passenger among the victims also disclosed that “we had left Ile-Ife but yet to reach the Osu community when we were attacked by gunmen.
“They robbed us of our valuables. They even forced us to transfer money to their account after collecting the cash we had. They collected our Automated Teller Machine(ATM) cards.
“However, I was lucky alongside a few others to escape their grip. I quickly called the security operatives in the area and luckily for us they arrived on time.”
Another security source said, “We engaged those gunmen in a gun battle and they fled the scene. But we arrested one of them. We took the driver that was shot to the hospital.”
The Acting spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, ASP Emmanuel Giwa-Alade confirmed the incident on Thursday
He said “one of the robbers was arrested because we arrived at the scene very quickly.
“We have taken the driver that was shot to hospital for treatment.”
