The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Kaduna Zonal Directorate, has secured the conviction of a social media content creator, Muhammad Kabir, for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act by defacing the national currency.
Kabir, known online as @youngcee0066 on TikTok and Instagram, was arraigned before Justice R.M. Aikawa of the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna. According to a statement released by the EFCC on Thursday, he was apprehended on April 13, 2025, in Tudun Wada, Kaduna State.
The commission explained that Kabir had posted a video on his social media platforms where he was seen spraying and stepping on Naira notes, while making statements in Hausa language that openly dared the EFCC to arrest him, even specifying his location.
Following his arrest, Kabir was charged for breaching provisions of the CBN Act, which criminalizes the abuse and mutilation of Nigeria’s currency.
His amended one-count charge stated: “That you Muhammad Kabir Sa’ad (a.k.a youngcee0066)(M) sometime in 2025 at Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did unlawfully mutilate Naira by stepping on the Naira banknotes while making a social media video and posting same on the internet and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act.”
Kabir pleaded guilty when the charge was read in court, prompting the EFCC’s counsel, M.U. Gadaka, to request his conviction and sentencing.
Justice Aikawa thereafter sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment or an option of a N300,000 fine payable to the Federal Government.
