Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked the staff quarters of university of Abuja(UNIABUJA) located at Giri, Abuja in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to informations made available to DAILY GIST, A senior Lecturer in Economics department alongside his two children were abducted during the attack.
It was gathered that a non-academic staff was also kidnapped.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen operated for over two hours, shooting sporadically
The University spokesman, Habib Yakoob has confirmed the incident the incident on Tuesday morning.
He disclosed that security agents have since been deployed to track down the criminals.
“I just confirmed that the information is true.
Apart from the professor and his children, a non-academic staffer was also involved. They are about six victims,” Mr Yakoob said.
The University said efforts were being made to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped persons.
The statement reads: “Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the University in the early hours of today.
“Our Safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.
“We have report that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men.
“Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed!”
The spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Josephine Adeh, also confirmed the development.
Although, he didn’t provide details of the attack but said the security operatives are on top of the situation.
