The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has broken his silence on political crisis rocking Rivers State.
Wike said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already looking into the crisis in the state.
The former Rivers Governor disclosed this at a press briefing after the PDP Governors’ meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
The meeting followed the impeachment proceedings launched against Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday.
Wike and Fubara had earlier met at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as President Bola Tinubu wade into the matter.
Wike, who spoke for the first time since the impeachment plot became public, said he had the power to stop Fubara from becoming governor if he didn’t want him to succeed him.
The reason for the breakdown of Fubara and Wike’s political relationship is still sketchy.
Hoeever, Addresing Journalists on Tuesday, Wike stated that the party has taken over the matter, noting it was in no way an ethnic issue as its being speculated
Wike said: “In politics, there are a lot of internal wranglings. That does not mean that in those internal wranglings, they would not settle within their families.
“But to come out to say ‘oh, they want to do this against Ijaw people,” that is very wrong.
“I was the instrument. I had every power then to say this is where this (the governorship position) is going. So, when things are wrong, you ask questions. It is a party affair and parties know how they resolve their (issues).
It is not an ethnic affair. Our party is looking into it, that is all I will say. Every politician has his own interest.”
Wike also emphasised the importance of holding his base to maintain his political relevance.

“Will you allow anybody to just cut you out immediately? Everybody has a base. If you take my base, am I not politically irrelevant?”
He maintained that once he loses his base as a politician, he has lost his relevance politically. Wike explained that no amount of calumny levelled against him would make him lose sleep, adding that the right thing must be done.
“All of us want to be politically relevant; all of us want to maintain our political structure,” the minister said.
DAILY GIST reported that members of Rivers House of Assembly haf served an impeachment notice to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara on Monday.
24 out of 32 members of Rivers Assembly signed a document to impeach the Governor.
The assembly ordered its clerk to serve the impeachment notice on the governor.
They served the impeachment notice on Fubara after impeaching and suspending House Leader Edison Ehie who is believed to be on the Governor’s side.
