Real Madrid superstar, Vinicius Junior has missed out on the prestigious individual accolade in men’s football.
The sensational Brazilian finished second in the voting behind Rodrigo Hernández, who is the new Ballon d’Or winner.
Following the development, Real Madrid has decided not to travel to Paris for the ceremony
The discontent within the club is immense, as reported by ‘Jugones’. No teammate from Madrid will make the trip to Paris.
The club understands that UEFA has taken significant control over this award and the decision behind it.
Thus, Madrid has boycotted an edition of the Ballon d’Or that will not see Vinicius crowned.
It was previously speculated that Vinicius is the firm favourite to be announced as the winner of the prestigious accolade.
However, just hours before the ceremony is due to begin, there has been a massive twist.
As reported by RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, who wrote on social media: “BREAKING. Vinicius Jr.’s entourage is now convinced that he will not be named Ballon d’Or. Everyone in Madrid has this feeling.”
In addition, it has been reported by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano that Madrid will not attend the ceremony in Paris.
He wrote on X: “BREAKING: Vinicius Jr will NOT travel to Paris as Real Madrid know he will NOT win the Ballon d’Or.
“No one from Real Madrid will attend the ceremony. No Florentino Pérez, no Vini Jr, no Carlo Ancelotti, no Jude Bellingham.”
Fabrice Hawkins added: “Real Madrid’s directors are furious. They are certain that Vini Jr will not win the Ballon d’Or. The Real delegation remains in Spain.
The trip to Paris is cancelled.”
Vini was the clear favorite to win his first Ballon d’Or after securing the Champions League and LaLiga titles with Real Madrid.
However, it will ultimately be Rodri, who is a Premier League champion with Manchester City and a Euro 2024 winner with Spain, that lifts the coveted trophy.
