The political crisis rocking the Rivers state may soon come to an end following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu
DAILY GIST reports that Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with some major stakeholders from Rivers State led by the Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, connected to the political crisis which has polarized the state over the past few weeks, has other stakeholders which include a former Governor of the oil-rich state, Peter Odili, and some traditional rulers from the state.
The immediate past Governor of Rivers State and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who is a major player in the crisis also attended the meeting.
Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila and the Deputy Governor of Rivers State were also reported to be part of the meeting.
At the meeting, Tinubu directed that all impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State by the State House of Assembly should be dropped immediately.
The president gave the directive as part of the resolutions reached during a meeting between President Tinubu, Fubara, the former governor of Rivers state, Peter Odili, and some other stakeholders, held at the State House on Monday.
Part of the resolution is that the remunerations and benefits of all members of the Rivers State Assembly and Staff must be reinstated immediately.
Also, all matters instituted by Governor Fubara and his team shall be withdrawn immediately and the governor shall henceforth not interfere with the full funding of the State Assembly.
Other resolutions of the meeting include that the remunerations and benefits of all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff must be reinstated.
– Leadership of RSHA led by Martin Amaewhule to recognize 27 members who resigned from the PDP
– Remuneration and benefits of all members of RSHA & staff to be reinstated with no more interference with the funding of RSHA by the governor
-RSHA to choose where to sit and conduct legislative business without interference/hindrance from executive
-The Governor of Rivers State shall henceforth not interfere with the full funding of the Rivers State House of Assembly;
-The Rivers State House of Assembly shall choose where they want to sit and conduct their legislative business without interreference and/or hindrance from the Executive arm of government
-The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Fubara, shall re-present the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.
-The names of ALL commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned their appointments because of the political crisis in the state should be resubmitted to the House of Assembly for approval, and
-There should NOT be a caretaker committee for the local governments in Rivers State. The dissolution of the Local Government administration is null and void and shall not be recognized.
