Gunmen suspected to be terrorists are currently engaging the troops of the Nigerian military in gun-battle at the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State.
Students who confirmed the incident on Saturday night stated that the terrorists had abducted another batch of students from the school.
“Pray for us; we are again under terrorists’ attacks,” one of the students said.
It waa gathered that the terrorists invaded the students’ residential area at Damba Area, Gusau, Zamfara State capital where they were said to have abducted the students of the university.
However, the four abducted students were said to have been rescued Zamfara by the Nigerian military.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency specialist located in the Lake Chad region, claims that Operation HADARIN’s soldiers saved the students.
The rescue was successful, according to Makama, who cited a military source, because the troops responded quickly to the terrorists’ kidnapped students’ distress calls.
He said the troops immediately mobilized and formed a blocking position at a possible withdrawal route which led to a heavy gun duel with the terrorists, adding that the troops’ superiority forced the terrorists to abandon the victims and flee.
During the encounter with the terrorists around 12 a.m., two of the students were able to escape while the other two students a male and a female were safely rescued by the troops.
DAILY GIST recalls the terrorists had in recent weeks attacked the students’ residence at Sabon-Gida identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida and whisked away some female students of the school.
