The popular Yoruba activist and agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Sunday Ighoho, has been released from prison by the Government of Republic of Benin

The Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide made this known in a terse statement on Monday.

It was however no cleared yet if Igboho will be extradited back to Nigeria to face allegations levelled against him by the Nigerian government.

Igboho’s freedom is coming 8 months after he was arrested and detained by the Benin Republic immigration service.

The Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye described the release of Ighoho as a “Triumph of truth over darkness in Yoruba land.

Recall that Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin on their way to Germany.

He was trying to avoid being arrested by officials of the Nigerian Department of State Services, which had declared him wanted.

DAILY GIST had reported how Ighoho’s house in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo state was attacked by the operatives of DSS

The Department of State Services(DSS) confirmed that its responsible for the attack on Sunday Igboho’s house.

DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya disclosed this in a statement made available to Journalists.

According to Peter, The raid was based on intelligence that Igboho had allegedly stockpiled arms and ammunition in his house.

But Igboho in a statement released by his media aide, Koiki said the weapons paraded by the DSS as recovered from his house did not belong to him.

Igboho noted that the guns found in his house were ‘government magic stating that he used traditional power to protect himself instead rather than guns.

The activist added that there was no prior invitation sent to him by the agency neither was any search warrant used by the officers who invaded his home.

According to him, the invasion at his house was an attempt by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to silence him so the killer-herdsmen, whom he always antagonized, will take over the South-West region.

Unsatisfied by the development, Sunday Igboho had dragged the Nigerian government to court over the Invasion

The federal government was ordered to pay N20 billiion to Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho.

The order was given by an Oyo state high court sitting in Ibadan.

The money is for damages caused by operatives of the Department of state security who invaded his house killing his aides and destroying properties worth millions of naira.

However, The federal government while reacting to the court order disclosed that it was going to appeal the decision of the high court in Ibadan, Oyo State which handed down the ruling.
