The Eleme Local Government Area secretariat in Rivers State has been set ablaze by some suspected hoodlums.
The newly elected chairman, Brain Gokpa, came to the LG secretariat accompanied by his councillors and supporters but discovered that some buildings in the complex had been set on fire
Informations gathered revealed that there is a palpable fear of a potential outbreak of violence in some LGAs of the state.
The incident is coming after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara swore in the newly elected chairmen of the 23 local government areas, following their victories in Saturday’s Local Government Council elections.
DAILY GIST reports that Rivers state has been embroiled in political crisis since the supremacy battle between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike began.
The local government election is now being viewed in both camps as a referendum on who really controls the grassroots.
The Wike camp seemingly opposed to the conduct of the election on Saturday.

After the IGP's directives of the police to vacate various council premises, the enemies of Eleme LGA( Wike's boys Ollormate and co) took it in their powers to burn down Eleme Local Government Council Secretariat this morning. Is this not a barbaric and foolish act? pic.twitter.com/oGhKjHIzYR
