There is currently a pandemonium at Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos, as a truck crushed many students crossing the road to death.
The hit-and-run truck driver on Tuesday reportedly ran over the students along Ogunusi Road, Grammar School bus stop, Lagos State.
It was gathered that the pupils were going home after closing time and wanted to cross the road when the truck ran over them.
DAILY GIST could not ascertained the actual number of affected as the time of filling this report.
The driver was reportedly chased to the Ogba area where he was arrested.
Angered by the development, students blocked a major road in the area and vandalised vehicles, especially trucks.
This compounded the traffic jam on the ever-busy road which links to Agege, Ikeja, Iyana-Ipaja and other parts of the city.
Riot has broken out as a result of the incident as policemen fired tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd.
In a video obtained by DAILY GIST, People were seen running helter and skelter as sound of guns are heard in the area. Shops have shut down and the entire area is deserted.
Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Lagos Police Command, Adekunle Ajesebutu confirmed the incident
He said more policemen had been deployed to the area.
“We are on top of the situation. Adequate policemen are on ground to maintain law and order. The situation is being professionally handled,” he said.
He disclosed that the driver of the trailer has been arrested.
He added that investigation into the accident is ongoing and further details will be released shortly.
