President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday has appointed the immediate-past Minister of Special Duties and former Governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume, as the new Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF).
Senator Akume is a long-time ally of the president.
Tinubu also appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as his chief of staff.
Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former deputy governor of Jigawa state, has been named as deputy chief of staff.
The president made the announcement during a meeting with the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) in Abuja on Friday.
It is the president’s first official set of appointments since he was sworn-in on May 29.
