Security operatives in the wee hours of Friday have killed at least eight hoodlums during a gun battle that lasted for hours in owerri area of imo state
It was gathered that the police officers recovered seven vehicles during the counter attack on Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo.
The Spokesperson of the Police command in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, could not be reached as at the time of publishing this report.
DAILY GIST recalls that about a dozen men armed with AK 47 last two weeks killed about eight people, including three security personnel, and set the country home of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State at Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state ablaze
Several other people were wounded and subsequently hospitalised.
The state government said “vigilant security operatives attached to the governor’s house successfully repelled the attack and consequently minimised damage.” but claimed the attack was politically motivated.
Police stations have also come under attack in the region, with many officers killed.
South-East governors recently announced the establishment of a joint security outfit, codenamed ‘Ebube Agu’ to battle rising insecurity.
