The Nigerian Police Force, NPF in Bayelsa state has arrested a suspect for allegedly circulating a disturbing viral nud£ video of a female student on social media.
This was contained in a statement released by Assistant Superintendent of Police Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer, on Friday.
DAILY GIST gathered that the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Mr. Godgift Bai from Ogbolomabiri in Nembe Local Government Area, was apprehended in Yenagoa.
The arrest was made possible by operatives of the Cyber Crime Unit, who carried out a thorough investigation following the directive of Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, CP Alonyenu Francis Idu.
The viral video, which has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, is believed to have been shared on various social media platforms, causing immense distress to the young victim and her family.
Investigation revealed a disturbing tale of revenge and betrayal. The suspect, Bai, is a former lover of the 20-year-old victim, an undergraduate.
The victim had loaned the suspect N30,000 between August 9th and 16th, 2024, with the understanding that he would refund the money. However, he reneged on his promise.
When the victim involved the police, the suspect reluctantly paid back the money.
But in a shocking twist, he allegedly sent the victim’s nud€ videos to bloggers, who circulated them online.
The statement partly reads: “The Command condemns the act of cyberstalking, especially targeting vulnerable individuals, and reiterates its commitment to curbing such crimes and related offenses within the state.
“Furthermore, the Command urges the public to refrain from online exploitation of individuals. Investigations is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court accordingly”
The consequences of the suspect’s actions could be severe. If convicted, he faces 3-5 years imprisonment, a fine of N5-7 million or both imprisonment and fine.
