Just few hours after handing over to his successor, Charles Soludo, Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested the immediate past governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano.
He is believed to be on his way out of the country to the US when he was arrested by the anti-graft agency
Obiano was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos while supposedly trying to flee from the country on Thursday, same day he handed over the reins to his successor, Prof. Charles Soludo, as governor of Anambra.
DAILY GIST recalls that the anti-graft agency had placed Obiano, on a watchlist.
Obiano, who was governor of Anambra for eight years was arrested on Thursday by the EFCC operatives as he prepared to board a flight to Houston, in the US state of Texas.
The EFCC had requested the immigration to place Governor Obiano on a watchlist and inform it anytime he is travelling out of the country from any of the international airports, as well as other points of entry and exit.
On sighting him at the Lagos airport on Thursday night, Immigration officers were said to have alerted the EFCC who immediately arrested him and took him down to their office.
The reason for his arrest however not cleared yet but DAILY GIST gathered that it might not be disconnected from alleged misappropriation of funds while in office
