Popular Nigerian businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu otherwise known as Obi Cubana has been granted bail by the operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The socialite was grilled by the anti-graft agency over allegations bothering money laundering, tax fraud, abuse of naira notes on Monday.
However, Cubana on Thursday has regained his freedom.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the development in a statement made available to Journalists on Thursday.
Although, EFCC, officially has yet to speak on why it arrested the businessman.
But speaking with BBC pidgin on Tuesday, that anti-graft agency said the businessman was not arrested as widely reported by many newspapers.
The EFCC stated that the socialite was invited two weeks ago but only showed up yesterday, 1st November.
“We did not arrest Obi Cubana. We had invited him over to our office two weeks ago, which he only showed up yesterday around 11am in our office at Wuse Zone 6 Abuja”
They also noted that they were investigating Obi Cubana for evasion of tax by the Cubana Group with money laundering and abuse of the naira in public places.
It wasn’t clear if the abuse of naira charges was related to the spraying of money that happened during the burial of his mother this year.
Obi Cubana made headlines a few months ago when he buried his mum in a lavish and ostentatious manner.
He trended on social media following a lavish burial ceremony for his late mother in the South East state.
His rise to fame has also seen him feature in comedy skits recently
The reports of the arrest of billionaire businessman, Obi cubana on social media and news platforms sparked serious conversations amongst Nigerians.
Obi Cubana’s interrogation came about two weeks after he bagged The Sun Hospitality Icon of the year award.
