The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has commenced the payment of monthly allowance arrears to the serving and former Corps members.
In September 2024, DAILY GIST recalls that the Nigerian government had announced the increment of Corps members’ allowance from N33,000 to N77,000.
The new monthly allowance was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Although, the new allowance payment started in March 2025, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu assured that serving Corps members and those that recently completed the scheme will receive an arrears of N44,000.
He had said. “Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. Once we receive cash backing for the arrears, we are going to credit them; we have their bank details.
Nigerians should not fear about that because the government is both responsible and responsive to their needs”, the DG added
On Monday, DAILY GIST observed that some former Corpers took to social media to express thier excitement after receiving the remaining part of thier allowances.
The development confirmed the fulfillment of promises made by the NYSC.
It’s not clear yet, the month the backlog payment is starting from.
