Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC have declared indefinite strike across the country.

The two unions resolved to ground activities nationwide from October 3, 2023.

The President of NLC, Joe Ajaero and the TUC, Festus Osifo disclosed this after their separate Emergency National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at the union NEC meeting on Tuesday following what it tagged as the “failure” of government to successfully implement policies to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians following the removal of the petrol subsidy.

The unions asked their state chapters to mobilize for protests across the country, noting that there will be strict compliance to the strike.

According to the communique read by the two Presidents, the indefinite strike was as a result of the alleged insensitivity of government to the plights of Nigerians as a result of the removal of petrol subsidy and continuous demonstration of unwillingness and complete lack of initiative.
