Operatives of the Nigerian police on Friday have arrested the nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable for refusing to honour the invitation.

His arrest is coming following the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum given to the famous singer.

On Tuesday, two videos of the musician raining curses and rough-handling some men of the Nigeria police surfaced on the internet.

Portable resisted arrest on Wednesday when police officers were at his bar to arrest him.

The police said Portable exhibited irrational behavior and hurled insults at officers carrying out their legal duty, an action that is punishable by the laws of Nigeria.

Several other videos of Portable narrating his encounter with police officers went viral on social media platforms

Displeased by the conduct of Mr Okikiola toward the officers, the police gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the singer, a request that should elapse today, Friday.

The police who condemned the singer’s actions also threatened to prosecute him.

In the two videos, Portable claimed that an internet fraudster had brought the police to his bar to arrest staff members “for no reason.”

But the police noted that it acted on a petition.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the singer in a statement on Friday

He said Portable has been arrested and currently cooling his feet at the state headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Mr Oyeyemi further said the Zazu crooner was arrested after refusing five invitations.

The police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi also said in a statement that “NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offense.”

“The Police will not condone any unruly act, assault or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty. We need to respect our law enforcement agents who perpetually take the risk of maintaining law and order and fight crimes and criminality in our society.”

It was gathered that the singer will remain in police custody till Monday when he will be arraigned in court.
