The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday has announced the arrest of over 100 suspected gay men who attended a wedding ceremony in a hotel in Delta state.
The Delta State Police Command made this known in a tweet on Tuesday
According to the statement, the suspects would be paraded shortly.
It was gathered that the suspects are currently being detained at the police headquarters in Asaba, the state capital.
The police said they received a tip-off about the wedding ceremony and raided the hotel.
“Delta State Command have Arrested over hundred gay suspects in a hotel carrying out a gay wedding ceremony. We will be going Live Shortly on Facebook to parade the said Suspects.”the police said.
Homos£xual relationships are illegal in Nigeria and punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The bill outlawing gay relationships and same-sex marriage in Nigeria was assented in 2014 by former president, Goodluck Jonathan.
