Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have engaged themselves in gun-duel in Osogbo, Osun state.
According to some eyewitnesses at the park area located around Old Garage, Osogbo, the NURTW members and NDLEA officers engaged in shootout for almost five minutes forcing shop owners to vacate the area seeking safety.
At least four persons were said to have been injured in the shoot-out that broke out between the operatives and the thugs.
Crisis ensued when the operatives of the NDLEA arrested a driver of a bus, who was allegedly tracked to Osogbo for carrying drugs.
The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babayemi confirmed the incident.
According to him, four persons were injured and have been taken to the hospital.
He disclosed that the union members in the garage came out with bottles, cutlasses, and guns and attacked his men during the arrest of a driver that was carrying a consignment.
He said, “There was intelligence that a particular vehicle is bringing drugs to Osogbo, so, today, they followed the vehicle to a particular garage, to see who the consignment will be delivered to. At one point, they tracked the vehicle to the garage and arrested the driver.
“So, at the time they arrested the driver, it raised alarm and the miscreants in the garage came out with bottles, cutlasses, and guns and our command was able to contact the CP for reinforcement, which was provided and in an attempt to withdraw from the scene, there was conflict.”
