The first ever case of Monkeypox has been recorded in Osun state

The case was discovered in Iperindo, Atakumosa East Local Government of the State according to information gathered by DAILY GIST on Monday.

The State Commissioner, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu also confirmed the outbreak of the disease on Monday.

According to him, the patient carrying the disease had fully healed before the result of the test conducted on him was out and was said to be positive.

It was gathered that another suspected case of the monkeypox was recorded in Osogbo, capital of the State.

Although, according to the commissioner, the cases were “still at the realms of suspicion.”

Isamotu said the patient in Iperindo showed symptoms of the disease, adding that samples had been collected for test and results being awaited.

It was gathered that a 14-year old boy with a symptom of the disease was brought to the General Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo.

The boy’s body was said to have been full of rashes and shores. Besides, it was learnt that the patient was admitted at the Trauma section of the hospital where medical experts attended to him.

The medical experts were said to have been kitted in disease preventive personal protective equipment while attending to the boy.

Personnel from Disease Surveillance Notification Unit were part of the team. It was noted that blood sample was taken from the boy for test.

A medical expert, who was part of the team that treated the boy, said: “We cannot be too sure that what we are treating is monkeypox until the result of the test is out. But with the symptom we are seeing, it is likely to be monkeypox.”

The expert said that the result of the test would be out on Thursday.

Isamotu said the cases remained suspicions until the results confirmed that it is actually monkeypox.

“We will get the results soon. It’s still at the realm of suspicion. We had one in Iperindo and Osogbo,” the commissioner said.
