Suspected hoodlums on Thursday have unleashed terror in Ile-Epo area of Lagos State, leaving many people injured.
It was gathered that a fight broke out in the market situated in the area on Wednesday night and continued till Thursday morning.
Some shops were set on fire while some goods were destroyed in the process.
According to report, an early intervention by the police was restricted by the hoodlums.
It was gathered that a fire service truck meant to quench the fire at the market was forced to reverse when it was being pelted with stores
DAILY GIST could not independently ascertained the cause of the incident as of press time but DAILY TRUST reports that the crisis emanated from two sides of the hoodlums who had won some sports betting money.
It was however gathered that police operatives are on the ground trying to restore normalcy.
“One of the traders in the market played lotto (bet Naija) and won N13,000 but was given N11,000 and becouse of the N2,000 balance which the he was not given fight started.
The hoodlooms from the nearby market used the opportunity to start looting and burning property in the market. They looted a lot of shops, carted away food items and valuables.
“As I am speaking to you, we cannot enter the market, but police are currently there trying to calm the situation, I can hear sounds of tear gas. We have lost millions of naira in the market,” a trader, Aminu Muhammad Sa’id said
